Bitcoin NVT Signal Over 90 Days¶
Definition¶
Bitcoin NVT Signal 90 compares Market Cap with the 90-day average of adjusted transfer volume.
The longer denominator smooths adjusted transfer flow over roughly one quarter. This strips out much of the short-run noise found in raw daily volume and shorter moving averages.
Among the standard NVT Signal windows, this is the most macro-oriented version in CoreCharts.
Interpretation¶
A high reading means market value is rich relative to a long smoothed base of adjusted on-chain transfer. A lower reading means the network is carrying stronger settlement flow relative to valuation.
Because the window is long, this version changes slowly. That makes it less reactive near local swings, but stronger for identifying sustained valuation expansion or long compression phases.
The slower denominator is especially helpful when transaction behavior is noisy from one month to the next. Short bursts matter less here. The signal only turns decisively when underlying transfer conditions persist for long enough.
Market use¶
NVT Signal 90 is best read as a macro regime series. It is often the cleanest member of the family for identifying long stretches when price is running too far above on-chain demand, or when valuation has reset into a more durable base.
It is not the right tool for early turns. The 90-day average delays the signal by design. That delay is the cost of stability.
The main advantage is persistence. When this version reaches an extreme, it usually reflects a broad move in valuation relative to underlying transfer flow rather than a short shock in activity. That makes it particularly relevant near mature bull phases and extended bear-market normalization.
Relationship to other metrics¶
NVT Signal 30 reacts first. NVT Signal 60 sits in the middle. NVT Signal 90 is the slowest and smoothest of the three.
NVT Ratio Adjusted is the raw daily comparison between Market Cap and adjusted transfer flow. Velocity Adjusted expresses the same underlying relationship as throughput relative to Market Cap instead of valuation relative to throughput.
Historical note¶
Long-window NVT Signals became popular in cycle analysis because they suppress a large share of transactional noise without abandoning the original NVT idea. The 90-day version is the most conservative read in that family and is often used when the focus is full-cycle structure rather than local momentum.
