Halving Epoch identifies the current subsidy era. Each epoch begins after a halving and ends at the next one, so the series is a categorical label for Bitcoin’s present issuance regime rather than a ratio or price metric.
A change in epoch marks a discrete shift in monetary conditions: subsidy drops, inflation falls, and other issuance metrics move into a new regime. It is most informative with Stock-to-Flow, Annualized Inflation Rate, and the halving countdown series.
The key limitation is that this is a label, not a gradient. It tells you which regime the network is in, but not how far through that regime it has progressed. That is the job of the countdown metrics.
