Median Transaction Fee shows the median fee paid per Bitcoin transaction on a given day. Half of transactions paid less than this level and half paid more, so the series captures the center of the fee distribution in satoshis per transaction.
A rising median means fee pressure reached the typical transaction. A flat median with a rising average or P90 means the expensive tail is doing more of the work. It is therefore most informative beside Average Transaction Fee and Transaction Fee (P90).
The main distinction is distributional. Median fee is less sensitive to a minority of unusually expensive transactions, which makes it cleaner for typical-user conditions but less expressive about the upper tail on its own.
